In announcing his plans to depart the Hugh Jackman-starring "The Wolverine," Aronofsky cited the project's lengthy production schedule and said, "I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time." That's hardly a surprise. Aronofsky, after all, had been known as more of an art-house darling than a director ready — and interested — in taking on more commercial fare.

Although Fox is pushing forward with "Wolverine," the project still has many question marks clouding its future. The film is said to take place largely in Japan, and the recent earthquakes there have reportedly disrupted plans to shoot on location.

"Fox is very anxious to make the movie and we're moving ahead full steam to find another director," Jackman said in March. "We need to find another director and once we've found that, we'll be able to know."

Biofuel Push Stalls In 'Car Crazy' Germany

The Germans have a famous passion for automobiles, but it has run smack into European Union directives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. So rather than ask German drivers to give up those highly tuned Mercedes or BMWs, the government is offering them "E10" ? gas mixed with 10 percent ethanol, produced from corn and wheat.

But there are two problems: German car lovers are refusing to buy it and environmentalists say it's no greener than regular gas.

At a gas station in Berlin, Franziska Muller fills up her Volkswagen Polo on her way home from work. Its shiny, waxed finish mirrors her immaculately put-together business attire. And even though it's cheaper, the 32-year-old says there's no way she is going to risk putting the new 10 percent ethanol gas into her car.

"You bet I'm worried about my car ? most of all about the motor," Muller says. "Nobody can guarantee that it won't get damaged. Of course, it means I pay a bit more for gas, but for now there's no way I'm touching the stuff."

Muller is hardly alone. The German Automobile Association says that some 85 percent of Germans are refusing to buy the biofuel, despite the fact that it is about 8 percent cheaper by the gallon than ordinary super unleaded gasoline.

"Anybody who wants to introduce a new fuel in Germany will always have a problem because Germans are car crazy," says Frank Bruhning with the German Biofuels Association.

Bruhning insists the public's extreme lack of enthusiasm has mainly been a problem of marketing and that the biofuel is, in fact, compatible with finely tuned German engines.

"There is no problem whatsoever with using E10 in your car," he says. "It's safe to use biofuels. It's good for the environment because it reduces CO2 emissions, and it replaces fossil fuels, of which we have less and less in the world."

Concerns About E10

But German consumers are not convinced. They say there are no guarantees the gas won't harm engines. Germany's attempt to up the amount of ethanol in fuel from 5 percent to 10 percent has proven such a tremendous commercial flop that gas companies in Germany have already drastically reduced production and distribution of E10.

The fuel was introduced as a measure to meet the EU's energy directive ? which stipulates that 10 percent of transport fuel must come from renewable sources by the year 2020 as part of the bid to reduce overall energy consumption.

Meanwhile, environmental groups say ecological damage is another reason to steer clear of E10. They say the energy used to make and transport the fuel ? as well as the pesticides and water used in the production of crops for ethanol ? are just as damaging to the environment as filling up with regular.

Werner Reh, a traffic expert with Friends of the Earth Germany, charges that crop-derived fuels are also boosting global food prices.

"Why should we invest in biomass to grow for the tank instead of the plate?" Reh asks. "If people are hungry, we can't really afford ? and we don't think it's ethical ? to do that."

But Germany still needs to find a way to meet the EU's clean-energy directive. The German Green Party is calling for the wider introduction of wind farms and electric cars, but as the biofuel industry's Bruhning points out, the alternatives are not yet available in sufficient numbers.

"Right now, the only alternative that's existing is biofuels," he says. "And the German government hopes that [by] 2020 we'll have 1 million electric cars. But in total we have 50 million cars, so it's just one fiftieth."

In the wake of Japan's nuclear crisis, more and more Germans have joined the long-active chorus of citizens calling for the country to phase out its nuclear power plants by at least 2021. So with more Germans saying no thanks both to nuclear power and biofuels, carbon dioxide emissions are likely to increase in Europe's largest economy before they decrease.

In fact, German companies are now building several new coal-fired power plants to help meet energy demand.

TV Ratings: 'Celebrity Apprentice' Ends Season on Low

ABC's Billboard Music Awards was all the talk on Sunday, but over on NBC,?Donald Trump named the latest winner of Celebrity Apprentice.

Celebrity Apprentice managed to trump the BMAs in viewership, averaging 8.3 million total viewers, but was behind in the adults 18-49 demographic with a 2.9 rating. The two-hour season ender, which saw country star John Rich?named the victor, was the franchise's lowest-rated spring finale. The episode dipped 15 percent compared with last season's finale.?

Minute to Win It (4.2 million, 1.2)?and Dateline (5 million, 1.3), though, were up double digits. NBC placed third in the demo.

ABC did top the night in the demo, averaging a 2.6 rating, with the Billboard Music Awards (7.9 million, 2.9) and America's Funniest Home Videos (6.1 million, 1.5), down 17 percent.

Fox's animation block placed second among adults 18-49, with the season finale of?Family Guy?(5.8 million, 3.0) Sunday's highest-rated program. American Dad (3.6 million, 1.6) and Bob's Burgers (4.3 million, 2.1) slipped slightly, while The Simpsons (5.3 million, 2.5) remained steady.

CBS' 60 Minutes (10.6 million, 1.5), which aired its piece on the Lance Armstrong doping case, dipped 12 percent. Jesse Stone: Innocents Loss (13.7 million, 1.3), starring Tom Selleck, was Sunday's most-watched program.

'Priscilla' Plays Canned Music; Union Claims Desertion

Musicians Local 802 is protesting the Broadway show Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert for its use of fewer musicians than the minimum required. The show is the first musical in Broadway history to use a prerecorded soundtrack that a small group of musicians accompany. NPR's Jeff Lunden reports.

When "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" opened on Broadway in March, there were fewer musicians in the orchestra pit than union agreements normally require. The producers had won this concession over the musicians' objections. The dispute is still in arbitration, but the musicians have taken their case to the public.

Jeff Lunden has more.

JEFF LUNDEN: "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" is a fun-loving, splashy $15 million jukebox musical filled with disco hits and lip-syncing drag queens.

(Soundbite of music)

LUNDEN: The show wants little more than to entertain Broadway audiences for a couple of hours, and it's been packing them in on a pretty consistent basis. So why were there eight concerned musicians standing outside the Palace Theatre handing out leaflets before the show last Thursday night?

Mr. BILL RHODEN (Retired, Trumpet Player): Please support the musicians on Broadway.

LUNDEN: Bill Rhoden, a retired trumpet player who worked in Broadway pit orchestras for 40 years, thinks "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" represents a threat to the very livelihood of his fellow musicians.

Mr. RHODEN: When you go into this show, you're going to hear the sound of strings coming through the sound system, but there's not a single string player in the orchestra. It's all been prerecorded. And we are very concerned about the live tradition of Broadway and how it is being undercut here at this show.

LUNDEN: For the first time in Broadway history, most of the songs in a musical utilize a prerecorded soundtrack, while nine musicians play along with the recording.

Lead producer Garry McQuinn insists this is not about cost-saving, but aesthetics. He says the creative team wanted to emulate the cheesy sound of drag clubs in Sydney, Australia, during the 1970s and '80s.

Mr. GARRY MCQUINN (Lead Producer): It's a very kind of particular sound. And it's a sound that's actually, if you like, synthetic. We never wanted the lush orchestral sound. We never did want that. We still don't want it.

LUNDEN: But Tino Gagliardi, president of musicians' Local 802, doesn't buy the argument.

Mr. TINO GAGLIARDI (President, Local 802): There is no artistic reason why they had to record a whole string section and have it play along, the way it does. There is only one consideration and that, in my opinion, is financial.

LUNDEN: And Gagliardi isn't only concerned that the show employs half the musicians than normally play at the Palace. He thinks it undercuts a very basic aspect of what makes a Broadway musical a Broadway musical a live orchestra.

Mr. GAGLIARDI: It's not even a labor/management issue, as much as it is an aesthetic one. People, wake up. This is what's happening to theater, okay? Before you know it, we're going to be another Branson, Missouri. And I'm sorry this is the capital - the Great White Way, for crying out loud.

(Soundbite of song, "I Will Survive")

Ms. ANASTACIA MCCLESKEY, ASHLEY SPENCER, JACQUELINE B. ARNOLD (Actors/Singers): (as Divas) (Singing) Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye? You think I'd crumble? You think I'd crumble? You think I'd lay down and die? Oh no, not I. I will survive.

LUNDEN: Producer Garry McQuinn says if the arbitrator rules in the union's favor, he'll abide by the decision. But he's still not going to change the show.

Mr. MCQUINN: If this dispute got to the point where we, essentially, were forced to employ musicians, strings or otherwise, we wouldn't put them in anyway. They'd have to sit there doing nothing, because that sound is terribly important to us.

LUNDEN: And McQuinn wonders why Local 802 has brought the dispute to the public, months after the show has opened and while both sides are engaged in arbitration.

Mr. MCQUINN: That feels to me like the 802 is actually trying to pre-empt the proper processes that are actually laid down in those industry agreements. I mean, they're outside our theater, handing out leaflets and picketing. That's just not appropriate, in my view.

LUNDEN: But after the show on Thursday, as happy crowds poured out of the Palace Theatre, most seemed oblivious to the brouhaha.

It was the third time New Yorker Steve Cordoves had seen "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."

Mr. STEVE CORDOVES: It's amazing.

LUNDEN: Were you aware of the musicians outside before the show tonight?

Mr. CORDOVES: No, I wasn't.

LUNDEN: They were protesting the fact that some of the songs were prerecorded and the orchestra plays along. Does that bother you at all?

Mr. CORDOVES: No, it doesn't.

LUNDEN: Both sides expect arbitration to be decided within the next few months.

WITN: London Is Gonna Be Pissed, But We Prefer Berlin for Startups (TCTV)

We've spent much of the last week exploring Berlin, attending the Next11 conference and meeting a few local startups. The biggest problem from a video entertainment standpoint? We both agree that Berlin feels like a better startup town than London. "Feels like" is an important disclaimer here. Berlin certainly doesn't have the track record, local sophisticated investor class, nor does it have many current up and comers. The recent track record has been mostly riddled with US Web copycats. There's no question London has a much more advanced, sophisticated startup ecosystem now. But it's also one we've argued feels about as developed as it's going to get. Berlin, on the other hand, like a startup itself, is just getting going and feels dynamic and full of promise.

To transfer ownership of an asset to someone else, you first move the asset from your own secret location to another location which the recipient knows about.
